Reflecting on the Grace and Majesty of Motherhood: Welcoming Our Precious Granddaughter

Today, I sat beside my wife of almost four decades as she held our new granddaughter - born just two days prior. The quiet peace that filled the room was overwhelming. It stirred a realization in me that has been absent for many years.

For 30 years, I've devoted much of my life to help others achieve the same moment of pure contentment that we experienced today, seeking to give them the wonder and rightness found within motherhood. In my pursuit of helping others embrace this experience, I had forgotten its sheer magic and beauty.

As Mother's Day arrives with another reminder of the splor attributed to mothers, let me pay homage to it and appreciate what it truly represents. The celebration of motherhood is not just about the biological process that creates new life - it's a symphony of birth, nurturing, love, and dedication that brings forth a sense of peace and rightness in this world.

My thoughts today are with my patients who struggle dly agnst infertility - often battling their own hearts as they consider using donated eggs or sperm. Their partners' love is so profound they can't imagine having children without a connection to the one they adore, which makes it hard for them to accept that part of their identity might not be present in their offspring.

The beauty and power of motherhood transcs biology; it's rooted in the heart's capacity for care and compassion. The experience that brought us together today - a moment where I could see my family united by love, nurturing, and joy - is what we celebrate during Mother's Day. It's these moments that remind us of the source of peace and rightness in this world.
